When it comes to skin problems, acne or pimples top the list. They are annoying and painful, especially if they appear on uncommon areas of your body, such as the vagina, butt, or around and inside the ear. Ear acne, often known as an ear zit, may severely impair your hearing and harm your ears. This can even become worse if there’s an infection. So, how to get rid of pimples in the ear? Check out the following home remedies to treat it naturally.
Dr. Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist, and dermato-surgeon at The Esthetic Clinics, spoke to Health Shots about how to get rid of ear acne.
What causes pimples in the ear?
Dr. Kapoor says, “Pesky acne always chooses the wrong time to appear on the skin. Pimples can appear anywhere, even in your ear, like the outer ear, ear canal, or the back of the ear. The accumulation of body oils, sweat, dead skin cells, and germs causes these pimples. Ear pimples are often painful since the ear lacks fat and flexibility.”
Of course, the first rule of treatment is that you don’t pop the pimple at any cost. However, you may quickly eliminate and even avoid spots with a bit of self-care and easy DIY and home treatments.
Warm compress
Soak a hot washcloth in warm water. Wring it well. Place the washcloth on the pimple for 10-15 minutes. Please don’t press it too much. This helps reduce inflammation and irritation and softens the spot, thus letting it drain itself.

Benzoyl peroxide
Use acne creams containing 2-10 percent benzoyl peroxide twice or thrice a day. Clean the affected area and apply the cream and let it. This will kill the bacterial infection and heal the pimple quickly.
Retinoid cream
This is only suitable for the pimples at the external ear. Dab some cream on the skin about 20 minutes after washing the skin. Remember to apply sunscreen before stepping out.
Neosporin gel
The best therapy for acne is not Neosporin. However, because it contains hydrating and skin-healing oils, it can temporarily calm irritation and repair damaged skin areas. Apply the gel to the pimple and let it dry. Do this 3-4 times a day.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is an effective remedy due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can kill acne-causing bacteria. Dip a cotton swab in tea tree oil and lightly dab it on the pimple. Leave it overnight. Do this for a few days regularly.
Tea tree oil is the answer for all your ear acne.
Jojoba oil
Apply some jojoba oil on pimples using a cotton swab. Gently wipe off the excess oil and dirt after 30 minutes. Do these two to three times a day.
Citrus juice
Take some pure citrus juice of your choice. Dip a cotton swab in it and apply it to the pimple. Leave for 15-20 minutes and clean with lukewarm water. Do this twice a day.
Garlic
Take two cloves of peeled garlic and heat them in mustard oil or sesame oil. Lightly press the garlic cloves in oil. And heat the mixture until the cloves turn black. Strain the oil and let it cool. Apply this oil on the outer ear pimple or pour three drops in the ear and clean after a few minutes. Do this twice a day.
Garlic oil can even come in handy while tackling acne.
Yogurt
Yogurt has antibacterial, antifungal, and probiotic qualities that can all be used to treat breakouts and acne. It is also packed with antioxidants, which can help the skin look better.
Takeaway
Consult a dermatologist or your doctor before trying these ways to treat the pimple in the ear. If the spot is very painful and too deep in the ear, let the doctor determine the best course of action. Keep your ears dry and clean to avoid pimple growth. Don’t try to rub or scratch the pimple out.
